In the world of nude modeling, there are almost as many approaches
to the form as there are models to bring it into reality. In this
wonderful series by Razin, we are given an in-depth look at one
of those forms – nudism. What is nudism and how is it different
from other nude modeling? To help answer this question, we look
to the lovely Marilu and her photo series, “Nudism.”
Nudism, unlike nude modeling, has a certain philosophical element.
It is done “for a purpose other than to arouse.” In
a sense, nudism is a lifestyle, a life choice, and an activity that
is separate from sexuality in any form. Yet it is more than just
“being naked.” Attached to nudism are a host of ideas
and principles that are evident in this series with the young Marilu.
For starters, the model does not approach her nudity as a striptease
or an effort to tempt. Rather, she simply removes her clothes casually,
just as one would in private. And here is something crucial about
nudism – when a nudist is being nude, she doesn’t act
as if she’s being watched. Rather, she acts as if she is alone,
as if there’s nothing strange or noticeable about her nudity.
This is why the joy of watching nudism is often linked with voyeurism.
Once Marilu has taken off her clothes, she begins to partake in
various activities. She gets into a boat. She walks around. She
plays in the sand. She splashes in the water. And here is another
core concept of nudism. When she is nude, the nudist “acts
in the world.” She “goes about her business” just
as she would were she wearing clothes. In fact, the central thrill
of nudism is doing things that one normally does in clothes, but
doing them nude. There is a feeling of freedom, of rebellion in
such acts.
Finally, all of the photos in this series are taken outdoors. And
indeed, a central part of nudism is communion with nature. Nudists
generally meet in warm months not only because it’s more comfortable
being naked when it’s warm but also because they like to be
outside. In a sense, nudism is the worship of the natural side of
humanity, which is, after all, naked. We were all born that way,
and nudism celebrates the possibility of being that way again. And
as such it is an attempt to “recapture one’s youth or
innocence.”
And indeed, looking at this series, one fully enjoys Marilu’s
youth and innocence. This is not only an exciting photo gallery,
but it’s an instructive look into the heart of nudism. The
pleasures of which are wonderfully shown by the beautiful Marilu.
