Some photographers try to load their images with as much color and
frippery as possible. They bring in extravagant lighting, wild wardrobes,
and excessive props to try to bring diversity to their images, thinking
this will also make them more desirable. But as we know, often “less
is more,” and it takes a master like Slastyonoff to show us
how one color and one girl can come together to make one of the
hottest erotic shots ever done.
“Yellow,” the new series by Slastyonoff, starring the
incredibly youthful and sensuous Julia, is an absolute genius testament
to the power of monochrome photography. Using only one color as
his palette – yes, you guessed it, yellow – Slastyonoff
brings out a mood, an essence, a passion in his subject that otherwise
would have been lost behind so much nonsense. How does he do it?
Let us count the ways.
First, if you only have one color, then make the most out of it,
and that’s what he does. The yellow that permeates these images
is so haunting, so intimate, so captivating as an elicitor of mood,
you can’t help but feel “hot” when you look at
it. All you can think is, “Were I with a woman bathed in that
light, all would be right.” The yellow ambience that Slastyonoff
uses for the shoot somehow transports us to that “perfect
time” in the night when lovemaking comes as a surprise…your
lover wakens you with a touch and soon you’re awake like you’ve
never been before.
Slastyonoff also uses a method that is, for some reason, largely
under-utilized by other erotic photographers – he has his
model strike a variety of poses, and he has her base those poses
on her own erotic imaginings. Essentially, what you get here are
a number of extreme lovemaking positions acted out by a beautiful
young woman. All that’s missing is you.
Finally, the photographer uses his clear and close-up lens to perfect
effect. You can see the tiny hairs on her thighs. You can see the
intimate carvings of her vulva. You can see her nipples, pert and
desirous. In essence, you can see everything you want to see, everything
you would see if you were there, sticking your nose into all those
places it ought to go…
